Barrie to Receive Over $31.9M in Funding

The Government of Ontario announced that Barrie is to receive more than $6.3 million from the Building Faster Fund for exceeding provincial housing targets. The fund rewards municipalities that make significant progress against their targets by providing funding for housing-enabling and community-enabling infrastructure.

Barrie is also to receive $25.6 million from the Housing Accelerator Fund. The Government of Canada and the City of Barrie reached an agreement to fast track more than 680 housing units over the next three years. This work will spur the construction of 4,100 homes over the next decade.

Barrie Allandale Transit Terminal Construction Has Started

This project consists of building an inter-regional transit hub within Barrie's Allandale area and a Downtown Mini Hub to host transit services and connections through a more integrated public transit system. The Barrie Allandale Transit Terminal will provide seamless travel connections between GO trains/buses and Ontario Northland for integrated transit access to Simcoe County, Muskoka and the Greater Toronto Area.

Barrie businesses/institutions must register to receive the current level of curbside waste collection service from the City, with the introduction of a new waste collection contract on May 1, 2024.
