The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka celebrated the groundbreaking of their new YMCA in Barrie at 535 Bayview Drive, officially beginning the construction process for this new facility, which will include more than 70,000 square feet of programming space, including fitness, aquatics, and other community programs.

Nominations for the 7th annual Mayor’s Innovation Awards are now open. These awards celebrate the year’s most creative solutions from businesses, individuals, and community groups in Barrie. The deadline to submit a nomination for this year’s awards is June 30, 2025.

Invest Barrie and the County of Simcoe attended CANSEC in Ottawa, joining a delegation of eight local companies. While at the conference, they connected with representatives from Lakehead University and Georgian College. This year, CANSEC welcomed over 12,000 delegates from the industry, military, and government sectors across Canada and around the world. 

Eighty-five years ago, a small local newspaper print shop opened its doors in Barrie with a simple mission: to deliver quality craftsmanship and reliable service to its community. In celebration of this remarkable milestone, Invest Barrie sat down with one of the company’s longest-serving team members, CEO Peter Madden, to explore the rich history behind the presses, the changes in the print industry over the decades, and the enduring legacy of Barrie Press.

The City has launched two fully electric Barrie Transit buses. The buses are battery-electric, zero-emission, and one of the most advanced models on the market.

For the fifth year, the City of Barrie’s Brightening Barriers public art exhibition is back, bringing new works by local and regional artists to patios in Barrie’s downtown. The artworks will be on display until September 26, 2025.
