Barrie has launched two Development Concierge Programs: an Employment Development Concierge Program which will help businesses to create employment opportunities and a Housing Development Concierge Program which will assist developers in adding new housing in the city. 

Construction has started on Sky Towers, a new development bringing 928 rental units to Barrie, including much needed affordable housing at 22 Grove Street West. 

Barrie has been experiencing unprecedented growth. As demand for wastewater treatment has increased, the demands for administration, operations, maintenance and related spaces has also increased, resulting in the City's need for a new facility.

In early November, the City of Barrie ventured to Germany on a trade mission aimed at strengthening economic ties and maintaining the long-standing relations with Zweibrücken, Barrie's sister city. 

The winners of the 6th Mayor's Innovation Awards were announced on November 28th. The Mayor's Innovation Awards is an initiative that recognizes and honours the year's most innovative solutions from Barrie businesses, individuals and community groups.

On Friday, October 25th, the Barrie Chamber of Commerce hosted the 2024 Barrie Business Awards Gala to celebrate the exceptional talent, innovation, and dedication that drives Barrie's vibrant economy. 

Members of Invest Barrie attended The Battery Show, along with municipal partners and local companies, to promote Simcoe County, Barrie and Orillia as a place to invest. 

City of Barrie Mayor Alex Nuttall was elected Vice Chair of the Ontario Big City Mayors due to his collaboration, leadership and commitment to addressing critical issues in Barrie, such as homelessness, drug use, lawlessness, the revitalization of the downtown core as well as city parks and public spaces.

The Barrie Arts Awards were held on November 12th at the MacLaren Art Centre. These awards honour individuals and organizations for their contribution to the arts sector. 

The City of Barrie was recognized at Communities in Bloom (CiB) National and International Symposium and Awards Ceremonies in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Barrie won in the International Challenge Large category, earning 5 Blooms - Gold and a special mention for its Waterfront Strategic Plan. 

The City of Barrie was recognized with a Healthy Water Award at the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) Conservation Awards, for the Sophia Creek Stormwater Management Pond Upgrades project.
