Call to Artists: Brightening Barriers temporary installations of public art |
The City of Barrie and the Barrie Public Art Committee invite proposals from artists or artist teams based in the Barrie area and throughout Ontario for artistic interventions that will serve as downtown patio enhancement The City of Barrie will commission six new works of art for Brightening Barriers that will be on display in public space from May 16th to September 26th, 2025. Four commissions will be reserved for local/regional artists/artist teams and two commissions will be available to successful proposals received from artists/artist teams based elsewhere in Ontario. • Preference will be given to first-time applicants. • We encourage submissions from Indigenous artists, artists of colour, and artists of diverse cultural backgrounds. In 2025 the City of Barrie will offer a mentorship program to emerging and first-time Brightening Barriers artists. Experienced locally based artists will be paired with up to three successful applicants whose proposals demonstrate merit but require additional support to fulfill the technical requirements. The submission deadline is Friday, March 21st at 5:00 P.M. Image: Marne Grahlman, Window Watching, 2023 at Homestead Artisan Bakery. Photo: Cameron Stamper. | | |
